ABOUT

Skjaldborg is a Viking period living history group founded in 1994 by John Chadwell, Mike Young and Shawn Nelson. Starting in Omaha, Nebraska, the group has since grown and spans across the Midwest. We specialize in public events, demonstrating and teaching about Viking Age warfare, crafting, and daily living.

We are comprised of individuals, other groups, and individual members of other groups. No politics, no power struggles, no hierarchy. We are freemen and women with common interests, who get together to learn from one another, share with others at public events, and explore aspects of living history and Norse culture.

  Bunch of big kids, really.... but we know stuff, too. 

 Our combat system is 

Blacksmithing and silversmithing, carpentry, leather working, runestone carving and soapstone carving, coin casting and stamping, fabric arts such as dyeing fibers, tablet weaving, and hand sewing. These are some examples, but we encourage experimental archeology and getting hands on with the everything the vikings created and traded
